Dalma Island, Abu Dhabi

      Dalma (Pearl Island) is an Emarati island located in Persian Gulf approximately 42 km off the coast of . A total of more than 20 archaeological sites was discovered on the island, ranging in time from the Neolithic (Late Stone Age). Around 200 wells are reputed to have once existed there, with fresh water being supplied to Abu Dhabi island until the 1950s.

      The salt-dome Dalma Island is famous for its fertile environment as well as the hilly lush landscape which makes it ideal for farming. The history of the island is connected with the rise and fall of the pearling industry and its constant relation to sea fishing. The traditional dhow boats are still used by the fishermen of Dalma Island. The island hosts some of the best preserved buildings from the early 20th century and displays an architecture which has almost disappeared from the rest of the Emirate.

     You can reach Dalma Island within 1.5 hours by ferry from the Jebel Dhana transit point, 250 km from Abu Dhabi City.
