Abu Dhabi Population
In 1975, the total population of was 211,812 people. According to the results of the December 2005 census, Abu Dhabi population grew 6.6 times to reach 1,339,484 inhabitants. Abu Dhabi's average annual population growth rate between the last two censuses (2001 and 2005) was 4.4%. Based on this rate, the population of the Emirate in mid of 2009 was estimated around 1.643 million, of whom about 25% are Emirati nationals.
Now, Abu Dhabi population is over 1.6 million and grows at an average annual rate of 4.7%. About 47% of the Emirate's population resides in Abu Dhabi City. Out of the UAE’s combined population of 8.26 million, Emirati citizens make up nearly 20% and the rest are expatriates.
